Working with creative savant, Paul Khera, Sanderson Studios designed a Himalayan hotel located in Hamachal Pradesh. The building sits adjacent to forestry commission land, overlooking a waterfall, and is a short distance to vibrant market stalls, numerous temples and mountain treks. Notably, the Khera Mountain Retreat is close to McLeod Ganj, the seat of the Dalai Lama and the exiled Tibetan government. Sanderson’s design and Paul’s vision reflect local values, envisioning a hand made building of stone and timber, built according to traditional mountain philosophy located in original books in the Asiatic Society Library in Mumbai. Our design also fits local topography, as the stone is dug out from the site, finished in situ, and the building built into the side of the mountain.
